St Lawrence Church, Besselsleigh.

If this were situated in a field by itself it would be quite an experience. Sadly, it is directly adjacent to the A420 road leading from Farringdon into Oxford so there is quite a lot of traffic and traffic noise. That aside, the church is lovely and well worth visiting although it is locked so arrangements would need to be made to view the interior.

The original building originated in 12th Century and the Normal style arch over the main doorway is clearly visible when approaching the building. The building is a plain rectangle in form with the Nave and Chancel all under the single roof.

Architectural specifics are taken from Pevsner (see below).

South Side showing two of the 15th Century Cinquefoil Headed 2-Light Windows.

13th Century Pointed Chamfered Priest's Door.

The North Wall showing a 15th Century 2-Light Window similar to the South Wall and an early 14th Century 2-light Decorated Window. The protruding section between the two windows is called a Rood Stair Projection and accommodates a staircase.

The South Wall shows three 15th Century Cinquefoil Headed 2-light Windows.

Both the Nave (West End) and Chancel (East End) of the Church have Late 13th Century 3-light Trefoil headed windows.
